The Tri-City-Athlon & Eurostar
Eurostar, the cross Europe rail service, is giving people a unique opportunity to compete in a very interesting triathlon event. The event is something very new in the world of sports, which will take into account the speed and efficiency of travelling by Eurostar. Basically the event will take place in three cities in Europe and each city will host a different part of the event.
The information below was taken from a website that explains the event and what it will encompass. The first stage of the tri-city-athlon will be a 1.5km swim at Bassin de la Villette in Paris, while the second stage will be a 40km bike ride on the roads near the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. The final stage will see participants travelling to London to take part in a 10km run in Regent's Park. Swim in 40 minutes, cycle in 1 hour 45 minute and run in 1 hour 10 minutes. It asks the viewers to send in a video or a profile picture and a text message about why you want to run and then viewers will choose 50 entrants and then those 50 will be reduced to 20 by a judging panel. Those 20 will have to impress the judges; this could be athletes who have overcome adversity, who can inspire others, athletes who can clock an overall impressive time or athletes who are competing for good causes.
Eurostar is the official rail carrier for the London Olympic Games in 2012.
For this reason they are running this event to highlight the fact that an athlete can travel from London to Paris, Brussels and back to London after competing in three different events in the same day. This is interesting because it shows an aspect of a big company collaborating with a major sporting event. This is done in order to highlight the things that are being done in preparation for the 2012 Olympics. A lot of people were afraid that the 2012 Olympic Games would not be ready in time but with major companies coming on board and showing their preparation levels; it shows that things are not as people thought. Some things are moving along better than expected.
There are several good things about this tri-city-athlon event that will take place. Firstly it is open to anyone, so whoever wants to compete can do so regardless of race, age or gender. It will give average people a chance to represent their countries in a unique multi city event. Those athletes that are chosen will be people with an inspiring story to tell or have overcome some hardship in their lives. This event will give them an opportunity to achieve something great after having gone through difficult periods in the past. Also people will be chosen to participate if they are doing it for a good cause. It will give those people a chance to highlight the cause they are following and increase the awareness level of that cause amongst the people following the event. This event by not featuring professional athletes will give ordinary people a chance to achieve something great. That one aspect will make it very different from the London marathon or any other marathon around the world because even though they are open to the general public. Here since there are no pros it leaves the field wide open for ordinary athletes.
The company Eurostar will be using this event as a promotional and marketing tool to show off their services. A lot of companies are using sporting events these days to highlight their service offerings and it is a great way to do it. Since people will be very interested in the 2012 Olympics, it makes sense for the official provider of the Games to highlight its services with a sporting event. And since the sporting event will be a triathlon it will feature three major sporting events in one event.
As the date of the Olympic Games get closer, we will see many more companies attached to the Games doing extensive marketing to promote and highlight their companies. If they are anything like the Eurostar offering, we will all be in for a few more treats to come.
