The Triple Crown 2012 set to break from May 5
The gala and glamorous event of the Triple Crown 2012 is scheduled to begin with effect from May 5. There lies a lot of enthusiasm and spirit about the three high-profile races of three-year-old Thoroughbred Horses.
The season will begin with The Kentucky Derby. The Grade 1 contest over 1 ¼ miles is scheduled to start at 6:24pm according to the local time of Churchill Downs. The total prize money reserved for the race is $2,000,000.
The last season of the Derby was won by Animal Kingdom. The maverick horse demonstrated outstanding run and made his way towards victory daringly.
The second race of The Triple Crown is Preakness Stakes which will be held at PIMLICO, Baltimore on May 19. The total distance of the track will be 1 3/16 miles. The Grade 1 contest has $1,000,000 in purse.
During the last season of the Stakes, Shackleford marvellously bagged top spot. The horse ran nicely and finished elegantly.
The third and last race of the prestigious event is Belmont Stakes which is set to take place on June 9 at 1 ½ miles long track of Belmont Park. The Grade 1 competition also contains $1,000,000 of prize money.
In the Previous version of the race, Ruler On Ice clinched the ace title by finishing first with a reasonable margin. The talented runner exhibited an epic performance and excelled his potential competitors confidently.

The term “Triple Crown” originated in the mid 19th century. So far, only 11 horses have earned the title of the high-status event. The first one was Sir Barton who won in 1919 and the last one was Affirmed who thrived in 1978.
