The U.S. women’s national volleyball team sweeps Trinidad and Tobago in Pan Am Cup
Sunday, July 3rd, featured pool play between the U.S women’s national team and the Trinidad and Tobago squad at Juarez, Mexico where the 10th Women’s Pan American Cup is being staged. The U.S team was able to emerge winners after pulling
together a decisive win by making a clean sweep over their opponents. The US women dominated by 25-11, 25-17 and 25-18.
The U.S team lived up to their reputation and have topped the pool matches so far as they recorded three back to back wins and no losses. However, the Trinidad and Tobago side has not been able to bag a single win up till now and have lost all three matches
they have played.
The start of the first set of the game brought the Americans an early lead as they were able to put pressure on Trinidad and Tobago by adding the first four points to the score board. Trinidad and Tobago did not seem to be in form as they could not give
much of a challenge to the U.S side. The lack of confidence amongst the Trinidad and Tobago squad showed as they tallied a total of 14 errors in the initial set of the game. The end of the first set was reached with the score board showing 25-11 in favour
of the Americans.
Building on the momentum generated by ending the opening set of the match in a winning note, the Americans were able to assert themselves in the second set by again taking the lead at the start of the set by going ahead 7-0. The set progressed much the same
way as the previous one with Trinidad and Tobago having difficulty stepping up their game to challenge their rivals. The U.S side added five blocks to their game and sealed the deal easily at 25-17.
The third set of the match showed a bit of life from the Trinidad and Tobago side as it became essential to win the set if they were to have a winning chance in the game. Despite the fact that they tried to overcome the American squad, the U.S. team felt
no pressure as they rounded up another win at 25-18.
The championships are schedules to go on till the ninth of this month. As the U.S. squad find themselves in Pool B, their next matches will take them to the Universidad Autonoma de Cuidad Juarez in a battle with Costa Rica tonight and then the Brazilians
on the 5th of July.
