The US Open 2012 near to begin at the Olympic Club
The second major golf championship of the year, US Open, is about to be staged at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, with the best golfers in the world getting ready to display their skills from June 14 to 17, 2012.
Tiger Woods is currently considered as one of the hot favourites because of his recent victory in the Memorial Tournament, through an amazing display of ball-striking and chip shots.
Following the win, he became the betting favourite. However, it can also turn out the same way as it did three months ago.
He won the Arnold Palmer Invitational prior to the start of the Masters Tournament and became a hot favourite then too.
Yet, he failed to record a good finish. Instead, he gave the poorest performance of his career at Augusta National and tied for the 40th position.
In addition to that, it was the start of the worst three-week stretch of his career when he failed to break the 40-mark on the leaderboard in each of the events that he played.
“He goes to the Masters and he fell apart because of nerves for the first time in his career,” Johnny Miller said. “So I don’t know what to think of Tiger Woods at the Open. I don’t know if that was learned from Augusta, or something he can’t control”.
Rory McIlroy is another player who is among the watchful list in the US Open, as he will be the defending champion in the field.
He jumped to the first spot in the Official World Golf Rankings a month ago and it seemed that everything was going fine.
That was a time when he suddenly lost his form and missed three consecutive cuts on the PGA and European Tour events.
Yet, he managed to make a comeback with a tie for the seventh-place finish in the FedEx St. Jude Classic held last week.
Another player, who is poised to make a strong start at the US Open, is the recent winner of the Masters Tournament, Bubba Watson.
“You think about the past national Opens here that have been played ... and in some ways you think, ‘Geez, you remember more about who didn’t win — what great legend didn’t win an Open here — versus who did win,”’ USGA Executive Director Mike Davis said.
It has always been difficult to make any predictions in the game of golf. The concept strengthens when talked about the US Open, as nothing can be expected in a tournament like this.
Therefore, it will be a must-watch event, with a number of great players competing against each other to take the major title home.
