The US Open witnessed surprises and a heart attack, 61-year-old Ghori tells his story!
The US Open was thought to be ‘thrilling’ but it was never intended to be ‘deadly’.
It was the first round at Lake Course, where the tournament became deadly for the 61-year-old Salahuddin Ghori, who was enjoying his favourite sport in the audience before he suffered a heart attack.
It would have been understandable if Ghori would have had a heart attack after witnessing Tiger Woods opening with a bogey in the final round but in the first round, it was a little scary.
Ghori was rushed to the nearby medical facility, where he remained un-responsive but was revived with an automated external defibrillator. It could have been a very sad day for his 30-year-old son Zaid and the world of golf but miraculously, he survived.
“I remember running and then that was it. I blacked out, I woke up in the ambulance when they shocked me,” said Ghori, recalling the incident.
Zaid bought tickets for his father because Ghori is a huge fan of Vijay Singh and it was supposed to be a great Father’s Day gift for his 61-year-old father.
It turned out to be very scary for the 30-year-old Zaid, as he was left with tears and the fear of losing his father on Father’s Day.
“I'm not a very emotionally open person, but I had moments where I cried by myself,” said Zaid.
The US Open had numerous heart attacks when it comes to big names disappointing at the mega event of golf. Tiger Woods, Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood failed to mark their presence at the US Open.
It was the 26-year-old Webb Simpson who outshined everyone and claimed the US Open trophy. It was his precision play and focused swings that got him the prestigious crown.
This is the first major championship win for Simpson and he is looking extremely promising as a successful golfer.
Ghori, surprisingly, wishes to come back to the Olympic Club and re-live the worst moment of his entire life.
“When I get better, I'm going back to Olympic Club and I'm going to put yellow and white roses down at the 15th hole,” said the 61-year-old Indian.
