The US Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship will move to the Squire Creek Country Club in 2015
The United States Golf Association has confirmed the Squire Creek Country Club, as the venue for the 2015 US Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, slated to start from October 3, 2015.
This will be the first time that the Squire Creek Country Club will be hosting the US Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Moreover, it will be the first time since 1966 that the event will be staged in the state of Louisiana.
Thomas J. O’Toole Jr., USGA vice president and Championship Committee Chairman, made the announcement and expressed his expectation about the successful staging of the event in 2015.
“We are confident the club will stage a successful national amateur championship and the course will test the players’ skills,” he said.
The Squire Creek Country Club is lauded as one of the premier golf clubs in the region, as it provides state-of-the-art facilities to the visitors.
In 2008 and 2009, the Squire Creek Country Club hosted the US Open’s local qualifying tournaments.
In addition to that, it also hosted the Louisiana Golf Association Mid-Amateur twice and was the venue course for the 2013 Louisiana Women’s Golf Association State Amateur.
According to the golf commentators, the history of the club in staging a number of prestigious amateur tournaments speaks of its ability to host another successful event in 2015.
“Squire Creek Country Club is an avid supporter of amateur golf and is honored to host the 2015 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.” said Rick Maier, director of grounds and general manager for Squire Creek Country Club and Development.
He added, “We are excited about working with the USGA to provide a great venue for the championship and a challenging test of golf for all competitors. Our members and staff look forward to hosting a memorable event filled with our unique Louisiana hospitality”.
The golf experts have also lauded the decision of returning the event to the state of Louisiana, as it will play a key role in the development of the game in the region.
In addition to that, it will also allow the local players to step forward and participate in one of the renowned amateur golf championships.
