Ok. I am not political but It seems the US sends aide everywhere but what about our own people?

In any type of disaster the US is there supplying food for the hungry, medical supplies for the poor, protection for the weak...Everything...

I was reading an article about the flooding in Iowa. Red cross (i think) was saying their funds are depleted. What about the towns across the US being wiped out by tornado's? The Katrina victims? Are they all back on their feet? The fires burning in Cali, oil prices I believe should be listed as a national disaster, and of course the list goes on...

We have so many of our own problems and so many people in need so why does the US turn down aide when offered but willing to go billions into debt to help others while our people here are suffering?

I may be babbling but I have so many questions and this IS Yahoo Answers :)

  1. I got on here today to ask the same question,I wish I knew the answer, but check this out

Who ever thought of this, should have run for President   !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

OPEC sells oil for $136.00 a barrel.

OPEC nations buy U.S. grain at $7.00 a bushel.

Solution: Sell grain for $136.00 a bushel.

    Can't buy it?

    Tough!

    Eat your oil!

Ought to go well with a nice thick grilled filet of camel ***!

  2. The funds of the Red Cross are always depleted and of course they only take monetary donations. But that's because they are just like many so-called charitable organizations, a very small percentage of donated funds actually go to helping anyone (besides themselves) - the donations first go to pay the organization, particularly those at the top of the administration. One of the very few organizations that  effectively do charitable work and have any integrity is the Salvation Army. There are others but they are few and far between. Non-profit organizations are frequently used by rich and greedy individuals as a tax shelter.

I know that in the case of the Red Cross, they won't apply one cent to any designated cause until they have made their share (the "cost of doing business") on it first.

A real life example that I know of personally - a family's house burns to the ground, there was no insurance, Red Cross says they will accept donations for the family, several generous members of the community make donations specifically designated for the family, the family never got any of the money that was donated in any form whatsoever.

You have some of the same questions I do RE: why does our government spend so much of our tax dollars being charitable overseas when if anything it should be spent here on its own citizens. But I also don't believe that [the federal] government has any business or Constitutional authority to spend tax money on charitable causes.  State governments may have a little more leeway for such things in their respective Constitutions.

"I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on the objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents." - James Madison

"Our tenet ever was, and, indeed, it is almost the only landmark which now divides the federalists from the republicans, that Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but were to those specifically enumerated; and that, as it was never meant they should raise money for purposes which the enumeration did not place under their action; consequently, that the specification of powers is a limitation of the purposes for which they may raise money." -Thomas Jefferson

  3. our government helps us by devaluing our dollar to the point where oil is $130s a barrel. wait, thats not good! (our govt ships nearly 90 BILLION dollars to israel a year? wtf?)
