What is the ultimate symbol in the picture of Dorian Gray. I don't want to say the portrait. I would say Hedonism, which is saying that pleasure and beauty is the most important thing in life. And if you tie that in to the novel it fits perfectly. In your opinion is that a symbol in the novel. Lastly what could be a symbol for hedonism. Thank you and God bless.

  1. I think hedonism could be a symbol as represented by that yellow book given to Dorian by Lord Henry. If you remember, Dorian Gray bases his entire life on this book that teaches that pleasure is all important.

If you want a person as a symbol of hedonism, you could say Lord Henry would be the one.

    I hope that helps

***Note: The portrait is the most obvious symbol, but it is showing the hedonism by which Dorian lives. In other words, the sinfulness of his lifestyle is reflected in the picture, itself.
