  1. The United States needs to save the money it wastes on being  a part of the United Nations and pull out. Demolish it.

  2. Reformed.

The United Nations is a loose coalition of entities, and only one, the UN Security  Council, has the power to pass binding resolutions -- and the US can veto ANY of these resolutions, even if the whole world is for such. The UN General Assembly is just a discussion forum -- it has no power at all. There are no "UN PeaceKeepers" but, rather, fully independent, sovereign military forces that operate in a country under UN Security Council mandate but are still wholly subject to their own countries (hence why it's so hard to prosecute soldiers in such forces when they commit crimes). So, obviously, the UN has little, if any, power. Trying to establish a world government?! Bwa ha ha ha. Get a clue.

Just one country can block any sort of action through the UN. The UN also can't go into any country -- even with just humanitarian aid -- unless the local government invites it.

Donor countries control the UN -- and, therefore, they discourage the UN from doing anything innovative or controversial or from truly reforming. The UN is beholden to donor countries rather than the poor people it's supposed to serve, and rich countries and powerful leaders of poor countries like that "system" just the way it is.

Also, many UN agencies -- UNESCO, UNICEF, UNIFEM, UNDP, etc. -- don't work together much, meaning there are a lot of duplication of services and competition for donations.

There are a lot of people at UN agencies who are trying to do good work -- I've seen it first hand. But they don't have the funding nor the mandate to truly reach their potential of helping others.

  3. There is obviously a serious mis-conception about what or who the UN is.  The UN is all of us.  Its our governments, ergo its us.  I am sickened by the fact the UN is not more active in Sudan/Darfur - but can appreciate its because China has made it know they will block any such activity because they are moving to secure Sudan's oil reserves.  I dislike the fact that governments use their influence to have people appointed to positions in the UN - but all of our governments do it.

My thought is there are many things about the UN that I personally may change given the chance, but I know the way to effect such change is to have our governments stop the activities I find unacceptable; call upon other government to do likewise; to bring into the public eye the manipulation of the world body by a small group of major powers to pursue their own agenda.

  4. The U. N.  could pass a Security resolution on cars with gas in them. Demolish these not The U.N.  As dangerous as nukes. Global Warming.  The U.N. should be maintained bucked up by citizens who would apply it to any nation which went onwars of agression. Start with U.S.A. as most flagrant one then see who there is evidence on. Powerful  not just weak should face examination. U.N. should help with Non Prolif Treaty for cars which run on gas.

  5. The main goal of the UN is to establish the New World Order agenda.

It must be abolish & demolish forever.

    My 2 cents.

  6. Majorly reformed.  If that isn't possible, disband it.  It's very interesting to me that Koffi Annan's involvement in the Iraqi Oil for Food scandal never was heavily covered by the media.  The man was deep into Saddam Hussein's pocket.

  7. I agree with Jeff there is some serious problems within the UN.  For one they have no balls!! I mean just look at the countries crying out for help but the UN has no intention to even help! Look at the recent news on countries like Zimbabwe who desperately need the UN to invade now! Not in 6 months time when hundreds have been killed and millions left homeless by the sheer violence and greed from Mugabe and the people who vote for him.

The UN has not changed much since the 1930's when it was first "created" and called the League of Nations I mean it look one year to sale round the world and do a report on the invasion of Manchurian if my History serves me right.

The UN either needs to step up, be reformed and do something or give us all a break and bugger off. There is no point in putting millions into it if we get nothing out of it!

  8. Maintained, but a little reformed I suppose. Like re-assessing veto powers.

It's a force for good. Anyone who denies it is far too happy to hear about their fellow man being slaughtered. It was started to rid mankind of the scourge and evil that is war, and we, as a species, must not lose sight of that goal.

  9. Abolished

  10. I have also worked with the UN (never again), and it is the biggest bureaucratic nightmare i have even seen. It seems that the academics are only interested in meeting after meeting, where have all the 'just get the job done' types gone.

They often prop-up corruption in so many countries, talk is cheap, looking at and fixing the real problems takes action. You would not believe what i have seen departments of the UN do (very un-humanitarian).

It was a good idea, but getting all the worlds countries to agree on anything is a dream, liberal thinking academics love it, it makes them feel important.

The UN....Demolish it, the world will never see eye to eye, sad to say but money rules it all. just look at the wages and per diems many of the UN have........
