The Vancouver Canucks win 2-1 after shootout with the Columbus Blue Jackets – NHL Recap
The Vancouver Canucks beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 after a shootout at the Rogers Arena on Tuesday. The Canucks with a win could open up the gap between themselves and the Philadelphia Flyers, as the Blue Jackets were looking for a victory to continue
their surge for the National Hockey League play-off spot.
The game turned out to be no way near expectations, as the Blue Jackets absolutely dominated two periods during the game. However, they were not as successful in outscoring the Canucks. The scores at the end of the regulation time was level on 1-1. The game
went into over-time, but no goals were scored. It was the Canucks who got their noses ahead after shootout to win the game 2-1 in the end. Roberto Luongo, goal-keeper of the Canucks was the Star of the Game, as he made 30 saves.
The Blue Jackets made a strong start to the game which saw them making quite a few shots on goal. They came up with some brilliant pieces of play that saw them coming across easy scoring chances. Unfortunately, they were unable to find the back of the net.
With the passage of time the Canucks also started to come up with shots on goal, but they faced the same problem of not being able to score. After the first half of the period, both teams shifted gears and were in total attacking mode. The Canucks were the
first to benefit from this, as they scored in the 15th minute to get into the lead.
The goal was scored by Mason Raymond from a brilliant back-hand shot. The period saw the Blue Jackets also coming up with some dangerous shots on goal, but they could not score as the period ended with the Canucks leading 1-0. During the period, the Canucks
made 8 goal attempts, as the Blue Jackets managed 13.
The second period saw both teams on the defence right from the start. They were reluctant to push forward and put the opposing defence under pressure. The Blue Jackets found the back of the net, as they scored in the 8th minute through Scottie
Upshall from a well placed flick-shot. The period ended with both teams making 5 goal attempts each and the scores level on 1-1.
The stage was all set for an entertaining final 20 minutes of play. The period definitely saw the teams coming up with some brilliant scoring chances and plays, but no goals were scored. The period ended with the scores level on 1-1 with the Blue Jackets
making 11 goal attempts in the period while the Canucks made 10.
The game went into over-time, but no goals were scored and the game had to be decided in a shootout, as the Canucks won the game 2-1 in the end.
