The Volvo China Open is in favour of the longest hitters
The Volvo China Open gives ample opportunities to the long hitters to score well in the tournament that will go underway on Thursday, April 19, 2012.
In the upcoming edition, all the golf players will perform at the new golf site, as Luxehills International Country Club was the site in 2011.
The Binhai Lake Golf Club is more difficult than the previous one and only long hitters can stand on the top till day-end. Recently, Chris Wood shared his views in his blog and spoke in favour of long hitters as well.
Nicolas Colsaerts is the defending champion of the tournament, as he won the title by scoring 24-under 264 enormously. He shot 65, 67, 66 and 66 throughout four days and secured the lead by four strokes.
According to Wood, Colsaerts won because he was the longest hitter in the field. His drives were accurate and benefit him almost every time.
“Last year, Nicolas Colsaerts, one of the tour's longest hitters, won this tournament on a different course, but that was also very long. So, I would be surprised if he were not up there again. So, for all you punters, there is my tip,” Wood said.
Wood truly believes that there are ample chances left for Colsaerts to lead again. Longest hitters are the hottest again in the current years’ episode and many other experts have also declared them the favourites. Therefore Colsaerts is on a potential lead.
There are many par three and four holes on the Volvo China Open site. These holes are easy for the players to score birdies and eagles. The requirement only is to cover more driving distance, by longest hitting, and to perform well on the greens.
Edoardo Molinari is also among the longest hitters and is in the field of the upcoming tournament. There are also many chances for him to impress the spectators and event officials by improved scoring.
Since January, he was only able to display his enormous scoring performance at the Trophée Hassan II, where he finished on the sixth position.
Rafael Cabrera-Bello, the 2012 Omega Dubai Desert Classic winner, is also an exciting player to watch. He amazed all his worldwide fans by delivering his best in Dubai, in February.
He scored 18-under 270 there and competed well for the title. He also gave tough times to the others by covering the longest driving distance with accuracy.
Hence, his presence in the field of the China Open is making the field tougher and more appealing for the spectators.
Similarly, another longest hitter, Peter Hanson is also showing multiple top finishes, with the help of the longest drives.
He secured the 3rd position at the Masters Tournament, 4th at WGC - Cadillac Championship and 5th at WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship.
He was also the runner-up at the Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy, played in February.
With all these top stars, Woods is also in the top experts pick. He is also playing well, since January. His game is in form and he has also shown longest drives at the Sicilian Open, where he finished on the 2nd.
The 24-year-old English professional golf player is in the field of the European Tour staged event and experts thinks that he has enough capabilities to lead the scores at Binhai Lake Golf Club in Tianjin, China.
“Andy Wadsworth, my trainer, came up for one session trying to get my bigger muscles recruited a little more throughout my swing to help prevent my back flaring up and also to get a few more yards along with some consistency – pretty much the way Lee Westwood
hits the ball,” Wood said.
Hence, the upcoming four days will be in favour of the professionals who are able to cover the longest driving distance. On the other hand, accuracy and impressive putting on the greens is also required.
