The Vosburgh attracts serious competition including the 2010 BC Sprint winner Big Drama
The field of 9 horses for the Grade 1 $350,000 Vosburgh Invitational at Belmont Park, has reeled in an ominous line-up, and this deep and competitive line-up will challenge each other to win the six furlong race on 1 October, 2011.
The 5-year-old David Fawkes trained Big Drama, who won the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Sprint, is in the mix as well, and since the Breeders' Cup Sprint, he hasn’t lost a race.
The son of Montbrook, out of Riveting Drama by Notebook, Big Drama is coming off two wins in as many starts in the year 2011, and is looking good to repeat the performance in the Vosburgh.
Big Drama raced in the first month of 2011, in the Grade 3 Mr. Prospector at about six furlongs, under jockey E Coa, defeating the likes of Custom for Carlos and Our Edge, who finished second and third, respectively, on 15 January, 2011.
The Harold Queen owned older hose covered the distance in 1 minute and 8.12 seconds.
His second race came in September and after a long layoff, his winning form did not wear off.
In the Whippleton Handicap at Calder racecourse, Big Drama came out victorious in the 6 ½ furlong test on dirt, covering the distance in 1 minute and 17.62 seconds.
The North America’s 2010 Eclipse champion sprinter, Big Drama, is looking good after his strong drill for the Vosburgh, where he fired a bullet of five furlongs in 1.20 minute on 24 September at Calder racecourse.
He will have to contend against the Bob Baffert trained Californian invader, Euroears, and the always threatening and improving, Trappe Shot.
Besides sending out Big Drama, David Fawkes will also send Apriority, as Todd Pletcher is also following the trend of sending two runners in the Vosburgh.
Todd Pletcher will be represented by Caixa Eletronica and Calibrachoa while the rest of the field will have Steven Asmussen trained Justin Phillip, B Parboo trained Giant Ryan, and P. Walder trained Force Freeze, who is in fine form.
