The video game counterparts of their television series from Telltale Studios and Cyanide are in the news this week with The Walking Dead surviving its way to a million sales while the Game of Thrones begins in June in the United Kingdom.
Starting things off with the graphic novel turned television show and now an episodic downloadable video game, the Walking Dead. Inspired more by the graphic novels than the actual televisions series on AMC, the game puts players in the role of a survivor
who is fighting for his life amidst a post-apocalyptic, zombie infested nightmare.
The game is only available via download from the PlayStation Store and Xbox LIVE Arcade for consoles while PC and Mac versions are available also. The levels of hype surrounding the game were high for a download-only title as fans of the Walking Dead are
known to be nitpicky about their beloved zombie infested universe, ourselves included.
It turns out that the game has proven itself in the sight of gamers across all platforms as the game’s publisher confirmed that the title has managed to reach the 1-million units sold mark in terms of downloads.
That makes the Walking Dead Telltale’s fastest-selling game series and Dan Connors, Telltale’s CEO, was on hand to commend the achievement. He said, “Premiering The Walking Dead game series to record number across so many diverse platforms is a tremendous
achievement that shows the value of brining strong storytelling and game play together.”
On the other hand, another popular novel inspired television series is also getting the video game treatment as A Game of Thrones is all set to make its way onto consoles and PCs. According to the game’s developer, Cyanide, gamers in the United Kingdom sometime
around June.
What ought to get fans of the novels excited is the fact that George R.R. Martin, the author of the series, also wrote the story for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC title.
A number of the characters from the novels are also set to make an appearance in the video game such as Varys and Queen Cersei, while gamers can expect to play as a Brother of the Night’s Watch and a Red Priest.
