The War Z beats DayZ to the punch – Video Games Update
Dean Hall, the creator of the DayZ zombie mod for ArmA 2 must be pretty furious right now as what he feared has happened. Another developer has ‘borrowed’ his idea and is now making a standalone game called The War Z (WarZ).
Hammerpoint Interactive is the studio behind the upcoming Zombie survival massively multiplayer online (MMO) ‘The War Z’. In an interview with IGN, Hammerpoint has revealed that they were already working on the Zombie MMO even before the DayZ mod came out,
but they were heavily influenced by the mod once it started gaining popularity.
"So, short answer: while we began developing our game before DayZ, we've been encouraged by fact that DayZ has become so popular. And, yes, of course some of our latest design decisions were influenced by the DayZ community forums," stated Executive, Producer
Sergey Titov, explaining the similarities between DayZ and WarZ.
WarZ is an MMO which will not feature the subscription model but will just require gamers to purchase the game once with online multiplayer being free thereafter. Hammerpoint is planning to retail the game for $29.99 which sounds pretty attractive considering
it’s an MMO.
The developers have announced that the game will feature a huge open world experience with ‘Player vs. Player’ mode and a single server will have the capacity for up to 250 players. Other similarities that WarZ will have with DayZ include inclusion of a
‘Hardcore’ mode where players will die permanently if killed i.e. they will lose all their items and progress for good and will have to start over.
Gamers are really excited by the news and are genuinely looking forward to the MMO since many of them are tired of waiting for the bug fixing patches and updates for the ArmA 2 mod DayZ. Chances are that WarZ will completely swallow the DayZ community since
it’s a standalone title, it’s cheap, it looks much better than the Mod and last of all it will be much easier to install compared to DayZ.
DayZ creator, Dean Hall will want to hurry up with the standalone release of the mod or else he will end up losing out to WarZ when it launches for the PC this fall.
