The Washington Nationals shut-out the San Francisco Giants 2-0 - MLB Update

The Washington Nationals’ starter, Tom Gorzelanny had a remarkable day with the ball, as the pitcher tossed eight shutout innings in the club’s 2-0 shut-out triumph against the San Francisco Giants at the Nationals Park on Monday, May 2.
Gorzelanny pitched eight innings, allowed just three scoreless hits, walked none and made four strike-outs, to win the four-game series for the Nationals 3-1. He pitched eight innings in a game after Aug 12, 2007 when he tossed a shut-out game for the ex-club
Pittsburgh Pirates against the Giants.
Tom received his first hit in the first inning, when the Giants’ Aaron Rowand hit a lead off double. His second allowed hit was also to Rowand in the third inning and gave his last hit to Cody Ross in the eighth inning. All of these hits were scoreless.
Drew Storen relieved Gorzelanny in the eighth and threw a perfect inning for his sixth save in the game lasted for just two hours and two minutes. It was the shortest game in the Majors this season, according to the news sources.
The Giants’ starter, Madison Bumgarner pitched seven outstanding innings, but still has nothing to show for it in the winning column this season. Bumgarner retired Washington’s first twelve batters he faced and did not yield a single earned run. He was still
unhappy with the loss because of the two unearned runs in the seventh.
Bumgarner allowed four hits and one walk, as he struck-out seven batters for his fifth loss of the season. He now has a 0-5 record with a 4.75 ERA. Madison has made a brilliant come-back in last two games making 14 strike-outs with just a 0.69 ERA.
The defending World Series champions were in their worst situation of 2011 as they were shut-out for the third time in last six games. The club has also lost eight of their last eleven games.
The Nationals honoured their military’s retired and active soldiers, giving them free tickets one day later as the President Barack Obama announced the death of the terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden in a military operation.
The Nationals wore blue jerseys with a star on it to express their patriotism with the Country.
The Nationals’ manager Jim Riggleman was pleased to have such a victory on this occasion as he had expressed his thoughts before the game.
"That's amazing, the way the timing worked out for that. Really a great opportunity for our fans...to honour our military vets and wounded warriors. Those who are here tonight are going to be beaming with pride about what took place last night."
The Giants’ closer, Jeff Affeldt pitched a perfect last inning, but could not obtain his first save.
