The Wonga Coup confident about the $150M Breeders’ Cup Pools Apprentice Handicap
The Class 6 $150M Breeders’ Cup Pools Apprentice Handicap has pulled together sixteen runners who are three-year and above. They will take up the mile and four furlong challenge for getting entitled to the winner’s share from the £1,704 prize money. The
race is scheduled for Tuesday, 23rd October, 2012 at Lingfield. Grabbing more attention than the rest are Mutual Regard, The Wonga Coup and Langham Lily.
The 9 to 2 entry of the race, The Wonga Coup, has made tremendous improvement through the last few outings, including Lingfield.
The five-year-old bay gelding has been active through the new season seven times already, and has bagged the prize money at just two instances. The Irish bay gelding faced a fair share of ups and downs, however the last three attempts have the connections
and the crowds expecting to see their favourite in the winner’s enclosure.
The Pat Phelan trained posted his first success of the 2012 calendar in the Dolphin Square Handicap on 22nd August, 2012 at Lingfield over a mile and two furlongs.
He was paired up with jockey, Simon Pearce, and the two did not fall into a high pace right after leaving from the fifth stall. Just when the final two furlongs of the race were about to kick in, the duo became prominent, but were challenged to the wire.
They escaped defeat from, Spiritual Art, only by a neck’s mark.
Coming at terms with the third position was, Mayan Flight.
The winning poise of Northern Afleet’s bay gelding wavered in the Plastic Media Engineering Handicap on 5th September, 2012 at Bath race course over a mile and two furlongs.
The race was landed by the favourite entry, Iguacu, who was accompanied by jockey, Daniel Muscutt. Qualifying as the runner-up was, Lisselan Pleasure.
The Irish bay gelding then won the Bathwick Tyres Trowbridge Handicap Division I on 15th September, 2012 at Bath race course over a mile and two furlongs.
Paired up with jockey, Ian Mongan, the five-year-old defeated the favourite entry of the race, Volcanic Jack, by 2 ¼ lengths.
The fifteenth stall will join teams with jockey, Jake Payne, and the two will need to keep a check on the level of competition.
