The X-Files. What happened to William?? And the ending?

I was watching the show til the part where William was born. Then I somehow missed it and when I watched it again William was gone and things were so mixed up that I stopped watching.

So could anyone tell me what happened to the kid and what happened in the end of the series (no details, just the basics)

I just watched the movie and I'd like to know

William was given up for adoption because his life was always in danger.

The last two episodes of the series really sums up what the show was about.
