Microsoft will have been pleased by the fact that their second-generation of gaming consoles has broken the record for the company’s best-selling home console in terms of time spent on the top of the sales charts.
There is no denying that the United States of America is the land of the Xbox. Every gamer there seems to own an Xbox 360 console and although that may seem like a stereotypical observation, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that an overwhelming majority
of gamers there own the console.
According to Anita Frazier, who happens to be an NPD analyst, otherwise her opinion would not hold much relevance; the Xbox 360 has given Microsoft two reasons to be in a boastful, celebratory mood.
A total of 371,000 units sold in the previous month confirmed that the Xbox 360 had become the “best-selling console system for the last 15 (months), and the best-selling hardware platform overall for the past 8 months.”
An impressive statistic, one that echoes the performance of the Nintendo 3DS in the Japanese market as the portable gaming console just cannot seem to drop below the top spot.
Anita continued, “Hardware really slowed down this month and all system saw a unit sales decline versus last March, and on an average sales per week basis, versus February 2012.”
It wasn’t all bad news as it turned out that “the high definition console systems fared better than many other hardware platforms.”
In other news, Sony and Nintendo seem to prefer keeping the sales figures of their portable consoles to themselves with the former only releasing a vague statement which attempted to convince fans that “the PS (PlayStation) Vita ecosystem continues to grow
with impressive” sales of not only the hardware but also the software and other accessories.
A number of triple-A titles are scheduled for release over the next few months such as Mortal Kombat and Resistance: Burning Skies, which could boost sales of the faltering Vita.
Sony also confirmed that Skype was also on its way to the console as the program would make the Vita cater to the needs of the increasing social interaction needs of the public.
