The latest report in Xbox World Magazine claims that the controller for the next Xbox will have a touch screen and buttons, much like Sony’s Vita.
The winds are picking up and the rumour mill is spinning faster than ever as speculation and ‘reports’ mount as to what the next generation of home gaming consoles will feature.
Nintendo have managed to keep speculation about their next-gen console to a minimum by actually unveiling it to the world. The consumer electronics giant showcased the Nintendo Wii U at last year’s E3.
That inadvertently focused everyone’s attention on Microsoft and Sony and their respective next generation consoles, the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4.
Rumours have been doing the rounds on the internet that the 720 will have two models with one catering for the causal gamer. Also there has been a change at the top of Microsoft’s Xbox division, which will see the console move in a new direction.
There have also been reports that the 720 will also be a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) among other things. The latest report though is far more significant and makes a rather bold claim.
Xbox World Magazine claim that the controller for the Xbox 720 will follow Nintendo Wii U’s model of having a touch screen with buttons, but will look more like Sony’s PlayStation Vita.
Apparently it will be slimmer and easier to hold as compared to the Nintendo Wii U’s controller that looks more like a rectangular plate.
The magazine claimed the 720’s controller has, “an HD screen surrounded by the traditional 360 buttons and sticks.”
It elaborated, “That touchscreen will be second only to Kinect in how you operate your console. It could be a remote control when you’re watching TV, a browser when you’re on the internet, extra buttons and information when you’re playing a game or portable
display when you want to take your game with you.”
The 720 also, allegedly, promises to make it it’s, “mission to bring games to life in your living room with augmented reality, directional sound, and four player, finger-tracking Kinect.”
As of this moment Microsoft has not commented on the situation and it is for that reason that we advise our readers to take this news with a bit of salt.
