Microsoft is said to be using a Radeon 6000 series graphics card for their next generation console if internet rumours and sources are to be believed.
It is commonplace for rumours and speculation to begin flowing thick and fast when the announcement of a new piece of technology, especially video game consoles, is concerned. There was plenty of speculation surrounding the PlayStation Vita prior to last
year’s E3 conference, as to what Sony’s portable handheld would be capable of.
It seems that the build up to, what everyone is hoping will be, the official announcement to the next generation of Microsoft gaming consoles is already in full swing as rumours have been flooding in thick and fast.
According to what can be termed as, “sources close to the project,” the Xbox 720 will be running the Radeon series of graphics cards which are capable of delivering “six times the processing power” of the Xbox 360.
At the same time the card will also allow the 720 to perform “20 percent” better than the Nintendo Wii U, which has already been unveiled to the public.
There is some doubt in the mind of the sceptics as to whether or not this rumour is to be believed as the Radeon 6000 series are already a year old with the 7000 series being the latest in Radeon’s graphic card offering.
At the same time there are also rumours that the Xbox 720 will have two different models; with one catering to the casual gaming audience while the second one catering to the more hardcore demographic that the Xbox brand is known for.
To be more specific the ‘source’ claimed that the Radeon HD 6670 would allow for 3D output, full 1080p HD, multi-display and would support DirectX11 as well.
It would be advised that the news be taken with a pinch of salt at this point in time, yet with E3 drawing ever closer gamers will not have to wait long until the rumours are separated from fact. In the mean time however, what are your thoughts on the Xbox
720? Let us know in the comments section below.
