What do you guys think they need to do to get into the playoffs?

I'm thinking 22-10 but considering they're throwing Ponson and Rasner every 5 days, I don't like their chances.

  1. Rays: 100-62

    Soxs:96-66

    Blue Jays: 88-74

    Orioles: 86-76

Yankees: 85-77 (If they go 15-17, they will be in last)

  2. To make the playoffs they're going to need to go at least 25-7 or better. No way in h**l are they making the playoffs

    bwahahaha

  3. no i do not think the yankees are going to the playoffs.. too many players were hurt this year, and the pitching is so so.. they better do something next year, i feel many yankee plays have to go.. just hope the red soxes do not make the playoffs.. as u see i am a yankee fan and do not like the red sox..

  4. The Yankees will sadly not make the playoffs.

According to ESPN's Baseball Tonight Analysts, Tim Kurkjian, the Yankees would need to average 5 runs every game for the rest of the season. With the offense in disaray, that will probably not occur.

  5. Yankees aren't taking it this year, actually the red sox and the twins/white sox, whoever ends up losing the AL central,          well one of them is gonna get the wild card, so this just isnt their year.

  6. I don't know if they can do it. The way they played against my team (The Jays) They looked pretty pathetic. It sure is possible if they pick up a pitcher in the next few days. The Jays could've gotten back into it this weekend with Boston but they lost a heartbreaker today and I was there. Here's my prediction which will probably displease you:

    Tampa Bay- 95-67

    Boston- 93-69

    Toronto- 87-75

    New York- 85-77

    Baltimore- 78-84

btw, 22-10 won't get the ma birth. Probably 23-9 or even 24-8. Gl though

  7. Very slim chances to make the playoffs. But let's see what happens. Five games out with five weeks left will be a challenge. I'm not giving up until the wild card is a mathematical impossibility.

  8. for sure the yankees are  not winning the division..

but they have a chance on the wild card but i think the red sox are winning it. but new york have been on this situation before and making it to the playoffs.so we just have to wait and see

  9. I just don't see them winning the wildcard. They have to leapfrog not one but two teams. I think during the last 32 games they will go 18-14. They will finish 88-74, 10 games out of the division, 5 out of the wildcard.

  10. Forget the division.  The playoffs are less than a 50 - 50 proposition.  The fact that they have to climb passed Boston makes it highly unlikely that they will make the playoffs.  To end the season 92-70 would be absolutely remarkable considering how poorly their pitching has pitched this season.  I personally don't think, based on their present performance that they will go 12 additional games over .500 in their last 32 games when it has taken them 130 games to pull 10 games over .500.  As a Yankee fan all I can say is, "Wait till next year"!

  11. Well pal in life you have to take chances.

  12. You are right to say their chances are slim. While sweeping The Orioles was good for the team, it didnt say much by beating them, as well as not gaining ground on Boston.  With just 32 games remaining, they needed to make up some ground, and now with no doubt, need to sweep Boston, and for that matter, Tampa to have any hope of getting The Wild Card and gain momentum.  I dont think they will do it, and mostly due to their lack of SP. Mussina and Pettite cant throw every other day. Not to mention their offense needs to stay consistent, and not appear in lala land most days/nights.  Tampa holds on and wisn division and Boston WC.

  13. Rehashing something I posted about a week ago, with updated numbers...

Mathematically, sure, they have a chance. But let's again dance through some numbers.

    Yankees through 24-August: 70-60 (.538), 130 games played, 32 games remaining.

Assume it will take 90 wins to get a postseason ticket in the AL East this year, either as division champion or the league wildcard. They have 32 games left; needing 20 wins to reach 90, they would have to put up a record of 20-12 (.625) for the rest of the season (and that's to win 90; still no guarantee of playoff time).

Let's break down those 32 games.

    winning percentage @home: .585 (38-27), 16 games left.

    w% on the road: .492 (32-33), 16 games left.

    Yankees home games remaining, opponents:

    3 v. Boston (road w%: .464)

    3 v. Toronto (.469)

    3 v. Tampa Bay (.500)

    4 v. White Sox (.452)

    3 v. Baltimore (.426)

    Road games remaining, opponents:

    3 @ Toronto (home w%: .561)

    1 @ Detroit (.541)

    3 @ Tampa Bay (.723)

    3 @ Seattle (.394)

    3 @ Angels (.609)

    3 @ Boston (.705)

Obviously being at home is an advantage, but nobody coming to Da Bronx is a pushover. And on the road -- ouch, the Trop, Fenway, and the Big A are houses of pain for visitors this season. Seattle is the only break the Yankees are going to get.

Can they put up 20 wins from this list? Let's give them a generous 10-6 record in the remaining home games and a sweep in Seattle; that's 13 wins. The Yanx would still need another seven in 13 road games. Now, they could go 7-6 as a visitor, but they're facing some very tough customers, and 7-6 (.538) is well above where they've been playing on the road.

Postseason? Only if -- and this is a big if -- absolutely everything goes right, and even then, that's for 90 wins -- which probably will not be enough.

    Recent AL wildcards:

    2007 -- 94 wins (Yankees)

    2006 -- 95 (Tigers)

2005 -- 95 (Red Sox; Yankees awarded AL East by tiebreaker)

    2004 -- 98 (Red Sox)

    2003 -- 95 (Red Sox)

I wouldn't put a lot of hope on either (a) 90 wins taking the 2008 AL wildcard berth or (b) the 2008 Yankees reaching more than 90 wins.

Yankee Stadium is going dark after September 21.

  14. The record is not that bad. What is bad for them is that the Rays are not giving up first place. The yanks are 10.5 back last time i looked. They will not make the post season this year. The Rays will win, the Red Sox will get the WC and the Yankees will come back next season.

  15. Yeah the Yanks have strictly been outplayed this season and they will have their consecutive postseason appearance streak snapped. It doesn't matter how they close out. The Rays are playing too good of ball, and the Red Sox aren't too far behind them. They still need Boston Chicago/Minnesota to tank it down the stretch even for a glimmer of hope. Good Luck next year.

  16. Yeah, probably about 22-10 and probably not possible this year. Face it, you guys are done. Hate to rub it in, but I'm a Red Sox fan, so I am pretty psyched. If it makes you feel any better, I'm still sweating them. They are the Yankees, and I was a little boy in 1978. But reasonably, your team is probably going home at the end of the year.

  17. 32 and 0 wont even help them
