It's really hot in my house now. The thermostat says 85.

  1. If you could get hold of an accurate thermometer, you could measure the differential temperature between the intake and an AC outlet. It should be minimum of about 10F. If not, your unit may be defective.

Turn the AC on early in the morning. If you try to cool the house when is hot outside, the AC unit will have a hard time.

I assume you are setting the thermostat to about 72-78F.

  2. It is going to take a long time for you to get a solution to your particular problem on Answers, unless you really get lucky. This problem needs to be discussed and this site does not lend itself to that. There are just too many factors that could be involved.

I recommend that you phone a friend.

But in the mean time. Is the unit fan running ? Is air coming out of the grilles. Is the air cold ? Is the compressor running ? Is the compressor fan running ? Have you checked your air filter ? Have you checked the batteries in the room thermostat ? Have you checked the reset button on the compressor unit, outside ? Have you checked the power supply circuit breakers ?

    See what I mean ?

  3. please call a technician to check the compressor.
