The all blacks are not chokers?!?

im sick and tired of hearing people say the all blacks are chokers if your going to say they are chokers because they dont win the world cup could you also say the aussies and south africans are chokers when it comes to the tri nations or ireland are chokers when it comes to 6 nations this year prime example they let in a couple of easy tries against italy that cost them the 6 nations eeek CHOKE!!!!

anyone who watched that game who knows anything about rugby knows they choked.

regardless of the fact that there are only 4 million people in nz and the fact that the ref made some terrible desicions they still choked.

i think that they lost their heads when mcalister was sin binned and that screwed them. then when he came back on he tried to hit a drop goal from 50m when they had ample oppurtunities to slot a drop goal from well within range. what was he thinking!!!

also the last 10 mins of attack they were not going anywhere. every player was trying to win it by themselves by crashing striaght through the french defense.

i agree with the guy that defined choking. the all blacks were favorites and had been built up so much that anything short of walking down the main streets of auckland with the william webb ellis trophy held aloft would be considered choking.

I agree, I wouldn't go as far as labeling the AB's as chokers simply because they didn't win the world cup! Remember, NZ is a country with a population of just over 4million people and to produce one of the finest rugby teams in the world, that is a big achievement in itself. I think everyone put alot of expection on the kiwis to win this world cup too, with their form going into the world cup. It has shown, current form doesn't necessarily mean you'll win the world cup! Thats the big lesson everyone should get out of this world cup. England on the other hand, a team who no one expected to go this far, look at where they are now.

Just because they didnt win this world cup doesnt make them chokers, They'll have another shot at it in their backyard come 2011. If you label the all blacks chokers, you might as well name the other teams that have won the world cup in previous years as chokers too simply because they didn't win the world cup this time too, there you'll find australia and in my view, that is not fair! The only reason why the all blacks are said to be chokers is because the media tends to blow things out of proportion!

the men in black are not chokers, just overpaid, overbearing, gutless wannabees .  When the pressure was put on them they reverted to a style of play that was abnormal to the all blacks in the last decade.  Lack of mental fortitude, lack of courage, and lack of team leadership when the c**p hits the fan.  In the forestry industry, and most especially in the silvicultural side, people/teams that show these attributes are called cabbages, monkeys and ( HERE PUSS-PUSS-PUSS-PUSS).  $250 000 to play for the nation.  Rubbish play for pride, play for fun, play for small match fee.  Let the money chasers go overseas, and leave the true all blacks here.

Your question seems to be a bit skewed..

All blacks are always hot favourites they are usualy by a mile the best team in the competition - but they never win it.

Ireland aussies and SA are never hot favourites.

When the best team fails to win it so often that it is kind of laughable/hillarious...this is defined as

a) A choke,

b) "choking"

c) or simply choking on your own c***s..

I agree with all the above. Sometimes you get beaten by a better team on the day. However sometimes you are the better team on the day and still lose. I think that was the case in NZ v Fra and Eng v Fra. Both winning teams were outclassed in my opinion.

Still it's the end result that counts - when you win - and the manner in which you played as well as dodgy ref decisions when you lose!)

The tag 'chokers' was given to ABs but no one said they were the only chokers around. Sure there may be more but remember its just a tag and ABs dont have to live up to it.

I think the French are the "true" rugby world cup chokers!

Lets see....

87 - lost in the final to the ABs.

91 - got defeated by an english side in the QF that they were expected to beat. The english were quite rough and niggly, they put pressure on France and Serge Blanco in particular.

95 - lost to SA in the semi final. France had a very good team that year, they were also very unlucky not to win this game for 2 reasons. 1) the game was actually nearly called off due to the weather, if it had been France would have gone through because they had a better discipline record in the WC. I also heard that they were given the option to abandon the match but played anyway. 2) Benazzi scored right at the death but it was disallowed (dodgy ref??). Fact is... Franch choked again.

99 - France got dominated by Australia in the final.

2003 - lost to ENGLAND AGAIN, this time in the semi, big choke. The French blame the weather (it rained and they had plans to play expansively against the poms).

2007 - defeated by ENGLAND AGAIN, once again in the semi. France were heavy favourites this time. Probably their biggest choke yet.

France have never won the RWC. They are the only "real superpower" that haven't won the trophy yet. So if the ABs are chokers.... aren't the french chokers to!!

I don't think they are "chokers". I just think they didn't cope well under pressure in the last 5mins when they could have got a try but didn't. And everyone knows that the All Blacks play better in NZ anyway!!

Yes, they are. Every year the Blacks are the team to beat, so someone always does. What do you call a team who has the talent to be a world beater, who falls short year after year? A few months ago, I said that I always bet on the All Blacks, and they always choke. This year, my money stays in my pocket. My friends said I have no faith, But I was right, and now I'm the only one with beer money. Everyone chokes once in a while, but the Blacks seem to be making a habit out of it.

Australia and South Africa can't ever be chokers when it comes to the tri-nations because they are never the favourites, or at least haven't been in a long time.

The All Blacks lost their composure and for all the arrogant threats and promises of victory that their fans made the rest of us endure- I think it is only fair to contiunue to laugh in the faces of the All Blacks. Beacause frankly, their exit in the quater finals is a disgrace.

Four world cups and the All Blacks always the faves- how can they not be chokers???
