The annual DLF Masters 2010 welcomes the best Indian golfers
The Annual DLF Masters 2010, the pergola for Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) will start on Thursday (today). The event includes professional golfers from all over India which represent the cream of golf such as C. Muniyappa as well as the former champion
Jyoti Randhawa. The affair will see former defending champion Gaganjeet Bhullar in action as well.
The event is scheduled to be played from September 16th to 19th
which will enter its fourth year. The tournament is believed to hold the biggest prize money ever in India's history which amounts to a total of Rs. 9.5 million. The event with a purse this large will be played at the DLF Golf and Country Club in the
city of Gurgaon.
With defending champions Bhullar along with Randhawa and Muniyappa going head-to-head against each other, the event is expected to be a highly competitive one. Other than the participation of these golfers, several other big names are also expected to partake
in this event. 2009 Rolex Champion Anirban Lahiri along with current Rolex leader of the game Mukesh Kumar will also be competing for the prize money. The tournament includes 2008 European Tour winner SSP Chowrasia along with Asia Tour winners Gaurav Ghei,
Rahil Gangjee, Ashok Kumar, Digvijay Singh, Amandeep Johl, Shamim Khan, Himmat Singh Rai and Harmeet Kahlon.
Randhawa will be playing his first event in the 2010 season. The 38-year-old will return to his home city to participate in his first event in the PGTI for 2010.
Bhullar on the other hand appeared last season and played a very impressive game. He took the event by storm and ended with a five stroke lead. Bhullar at the end of the game had a 15 under 273 in his score card which placed him in a spot where everyone
could see his name on the leaders’ board. His 273 had placed him at the back of the top ten. Marking his strokes as ‘handsome’, Lahiri and Chowrasia were also tied for the eighth place at the Asian Tour event. The event was named as the Honda Classic which
played in the exotic city of Singapore.
According to the director of the DLF Golf Resort, Akash Ohri, he was a proud director when it came to hosting the Masters. The director felt rather pompous when it came to being associated with the prestigious PGTI. Ohri believes that he is looking forwards
to congregate the fourth edition of the DLG tournament.
Ohri further informed that they currently have their focus on the infrastructure. The DLF has taken many steps to promote this tournament and has recently made plans to expand its infrastructure. Regarding the junior tournament, the director replied that
they will still keep on promoting junior golf and those who wish to chase their talent will still be supported by their academy.
The PGTI has till date been able to display a game that has all eyes on it. Other than the prize money, those who will make the top of the leader board are going to be awarded in other ways as well. The top four will be given an automatic qualification in
the Barclays Singapore Open. According to Director PGTI, Akash Ohri, the Singapore Open has a purse of $6 million which will be played in November this year.
Apart from the most intense competition in the tournament, another attraction for the fans is the distinctive format of the tournament. In the last two days, all golfers will be teaming up with amateur golfers who will then compete for a team Championship.
Each team will have one amateur and two professional golfers whose score shall be calculated on a hole-to-hole basis. It will be a best of three holes competition where only the two best holes will be taken into account. This format has a major role in increasing
the competitiveness of the game. The golf club is designed by Arnold Palmer and is one of the leading golf clubs in the country.
