There is a book (now a movie) by Douglas Adams called The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.  In it, an English guy hooks up with an alien in a stolen spaceship and have a bunch of adventures.  They discover that the great answer is ... 42.  But even though that is the answer to the secret of the universe (42), they still need to find the "Question".  Hope this helps.  If you want more, do a search for Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy - tons of fan sites.  Good Luck!
