The appliances in my Apartment are very old - Will I encounter any health problems?

I've lived in my current apartment for a little while now and just started realizing how old the Stove and Microwave are (they came with the place).

The Stove is a "Galaxy" whose hinges for the Oven door are so rusted I have to put all my body weight onto it and push down to get it open.

The Microwave is a "Panasonic" that was manufactured in July 1985.

Since I remember an episode of Seinfeld where they talked about getting Cancer from Microwaves.....

Are there any health risks with old Microwaves or rusty Ovens?

  1. As long as they are clean you should be okay. They probably cost more to run though. Everything on the market now is much more energy efficient.

  2. To be more exact.

The appliances do not give any health problems beside a bruised body part for closing the door. :-)

It is the possible cool monoxide and radiation that is not sufficient contained any more. The problem is, that you can not see these and the only way to find it out is to use the special test instruments, that a specialized repair center  will have. At least you should find out if there are no leaks in the appliances.
