There is a small inclusion at the bottom of what it costs the "average" Canadian. In the US everyone working will be required to pay an additional payroll tax, including the self employed, for health insurance. All these young people between 18 and 30 who choose not to pay health insurance premiums now will be FORCED to pay for insurance under any single payer government plan. How much will this cost the average worker?

  1. It drives me nuts to see answers that are totally wrong.

The canadian tax rate is not 50%. The higest rate is 29%. http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/individuals...

You can't say in the US everyone would be.... because no one has some out with a complete plan, right now it is just campaign BS. We don't really know waht the cost would be or who would actualy be covered.

The US already spends 18.5% of its revenue on health care to cover 45% fo the population. While canada spends 16.7% to cover 70% of the population.

Brains bigger than mine will have to figure out how to change our health care system.

If you want to see how other countries handle thier healthcare systems I reccommend "Sick Around The World" It ran on PBS and found it very interesting. You can watch it online here. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/...

Please post a link to this article if you can. I am very interested in this topic.

  2. Roughly 3 grand and the worse part is there are still out of pocket expenses.

  3. Well, in Canada, they pay about 50% income tax to cover it.  You have to figure, it would cost the average worker  in the US about $500 a month in additional taxes.
