I only have one set of data for the hypothesis. What type of reliability is this and why?

  1. This is true, in general.  Most tests are written by whites as the majority of the country is white.  This leads to an unintentional bias (I'm white, by the way) because the reading passages deal with customs and knowledge that may not be promoted in the Hispanic (or other) culture.  This does give an advantage to whites because even if they don't read well, they know the customs and knowledge well enough to make good inferences about the passages in general.

If you're looking for more data, look up the name of the test you're dealing with and test results.  For example, we take the TAKS test here.  I can look up data (broken down by race) for any school in Texas that takes the TAKS tests.  I just go on-line and type in "Josephine Houston Elementary School TAKS results" (for example) and will get their testing data for the last 5 or so years.  Of course, that's just one school.  The school in the sample is mostly Hispanic.  I would have to compare their data with other mostly Hispanic schools as well as schools that are predominately white in order to get enough evidence to say my hypothesis was correct.
