In yet another legendary press conference, Montpellier coach Rene Girard said that Olivier Giroud’s last-gasp goal against Saint-Etienne was very much like a baby that was having trouble coming out
His words were marked. By pricking his players this week after a shocking Coupe de France elimination at the hands of Gazelec Ajaccio, Louis Nicollin criticised his players and expected a response when they faced AS Saint-Etienne at the Mosson.
Rene Girard, the coach of La Paillade also admitted that he was ashamed of the defeat at the hands of Gazelec and promised that his players would show that the game against Ajaccio was just an accident.
On Saturday, Montpellier hosted AS Saint-Etienne at the Mosson. Les Verts certainly tested Girard’s side’s patience. However, Girard’s promised was to be fulfilled when a superb volley from Olivier Giroud in the 89th minute finally broke the deadlock
and ensured Montpellier of much-needed three points that take them provisionally on top of the Ligue 1 standings.
Following the game, Rene Girard was pleased at being able to vanquish Les Verts and even went as far as suggesting that the goal was reminiscent of a baby that was struggling to come out.
“In the first half, we were wasteful. The baby was having trouble coming out but we tried a lot of things.”
Girard further added that the team was in desperate need of a win following their ousting in the Coupe de http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 at the hands of a third-tier side.
After two straight defeats, La Paillade are back in the game and Rene Girard expressed his relief.
“This is a great relief to bounce back. It is said that great teams do not lose three times in a row, I think we are starting to become one. I am very proud of our collective response.”
Meanwhile Paris Saint-Germain host Girondins de Bordeaux at the Parc des Princes tonight. Ahead of the game, the Aquitaine side have a good record at the Parc and Girard would certainly be rooting for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Francis-c13946 Gillot’s side to at least deny PSG of three points.
Montpellier delivered their promise on Saturday and now it remains for Bordeaux to help Montpellier stay on top of the Ligue 1 summit.
