The ban imposed on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 is unsympathetic, feels Mushtaq Mohammad – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mushtaq-Mohammad-c78109, the former Pakistan captain, believes that the life ban imposed on Danish Kaneria is extremely harsh as cricket was his bread and butter.
The 31-year-old has been banned for life by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for any event that comes under the board’s jurisdiction. As per the ECB, the discarded Pakistani leg-spinner was involved in spot-fixing during the 2010 county season,
along with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 fast bowler, Mervyn Westfield.
The Karachi-born cricketer has categorically denied the allegations and is likely to contest the ban as he claims to be innocent.
Kaneria expressed, “It is a very, very unfair decision against me. They don't have any proof against me. I don't know why they are saying this. I will definitely be doing an appeal. The people trust me. I'm an honest man. I've been playing cricket with passion
and love. I have done nothing wrong."
Three of Pakistan’s premier cricketers, Salman Butt, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Amir-c76675 and Mohammad Asif are already facing lengthy bans from all kinds of competitive cricket.
While speaking to Pakpassion, the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 captain said that no authority has the right to deprive a person from earning his bread and butter. This is the reason why Mushtaq thinks that ECB could have banned Kaneria for some years, like some
other cricketers, but to deprive someone from playing the game forever is quite harsh.
“Cricket was Danish’s profession and whilst he has erred, I don’t think the disciplinary panel should have given him a ban for life. I think a ban of 5 years like that imposed upon http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993 would have been the right punishment,”
said the former cricketer.
The 31-year-old cricketer has so far grabbed 261 Test scalps, which is the most for a Pakistani spin bowler. However, the lanky bowler has been out of international cricket since 2010 as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wanted him to clear his name from
the spot-fixing fiasco.
Danish is looking to appeal against the ban but chances are quite high that the fans will not witness him playing professional sport in future.
