Red Bull driver, Mark Webber cannot wait to see the rally of cars get together once again next season and ‘reset’ the battle with his team-mate Sebastian Vettel and other top rivals.
Webber got beaten by the young German only at the last race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix however, he believes that losing the world championship has not made him lose hope. Rather, he is only waiting for the next season to begin in Bahrain and
all the competitors will be standing head to head once again.
Webber led the 2010 season for a period longer than any of the other four close rivals, Fernando Alonso, Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. However, only at the last race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, he lost the title to his team-mate,
in a much unexpected manner. As he wrapped the last round of the season at 8th place, his entire season’s endeavour ended leaving him at third position in the Drivers’ Championship.
Although he accepts the fact that Vettel is a well deserving champion yet he is adamant to try beating his team-mate once again as the next season starts unrolling in March.
The Australian said, “We start again from the first race this year. Of course it’s natural for me to continue to try and beat everybody and my highlights were like that this year where I managed to beat everybody fair and square.”
He accepted the fact that next season would see Vettel even stronger as he will be entering the calendar being the champion and also because he would strive hard to defend his title. However, Webber believes that nothing could stop him from giving his best
on the track.
The Red Bull pair’s relationship made headlines all through the 2010 season. Webber has accused the team several times for favouring Vettel over him. On the other hand, Red Bull very openly stated that it was simply against team ordering. Even before heading
for the last round the team stated that it would prefer losing the championship rather getting it by cheating.
At the Silverstone and Interlagos tracks Webber was very loud and clear to accuse the Austrian squad for favouring its young German over Webber.
Then there had been other instances when it seemed that the rivalry of the Red Bull duo can cost them both, the drivers’ as well as the constructors’ championships. At the Turkish Grand Prix the two collided into each other at the final laps of the race
when they were heading for a certain 1-2 finish for the team. The crash took Vettel out of the race while Webber had to settle only at third place dropping from first.
Still, all is well that ends well! And the fact is that the season ended brilliantly for Red Bull Racing. Now recalling the incidents of the year, Webber said that when such huge things are on stake these clashes are inevitable.
Leaving behind all the odds of the season, the driver is ready to move ahead with a new spirit and zeal as he knows very well that he does not have a lot of years to waste around.
