Question:

The benefits and disadvantages of pumped foam insulation?

Hello, we have 9 inch hollow block (cavity block) house and were thinking of getting foam pumped into the blocks to provide better insulation. We also have plaster board (dry lining) on the interior of the walls.

I have heard varying reports from people about the pros/cons of such a move, the con which causes me most concern is that there may be increased dampness in the house? Have people experienced any difficulties or problems with this and do the costs outweight the benfits etc? Any replies appreciated.

  1. We have cavity wall foam insulation in our house, built in the eighties and have never had any problems. The house is easy and cheap to heat. However the surveyors report did say some people such as Asthma sufferers can have an allergy to the foam, although we have had no such problem our selves.

A relative had an older property, c.1920, treated and the difference was VERY noticeable, much warmer and a big reduction in fuel bills. So on the whole I would say the pros's out weigh the cons.
