The best PDA for college student.?

I am beginning school to become a Chiropractor and I would like to purchase a PDA. Right now I am leaning towards the Palm TX. Do you think this would be good for me. I would like to use it for the calendar to do list, Microsoft office, and the Wi-Fi is a plus. The TX is a little more then I would like to spend. For that price would I be better off getting a Ipod touch and wait for third party apps to come out?

  1. Personally, I think you're better off with the TX.

There's not only a vast amount of third-party software for the Palm OS platform, but there's literally hundreds of medical-related applications.

Go to www.pocketgear.com or www.handango.com and search for software with 'medical' as the keyword and you'll see.

It will take ages (if ever) for the iPod Touch to catch up in software.

The Touch doesn't have Bluetooth so you can't use your phone as a wireless modem when you're out of range of Wi Fi.

The calendar function on the Touch is crippled (view only, can't edit it as needed). No notes functionality. No mail application.

    Definitely the TX.

  2. I have a treo 700 wx and it meets my needs. It has word and excel and can read pdfs. Would need to buy it from ebay, would be cheaper than buying a newer one.

  3. In my experience getting a phone which doesn't have all it's functions up and running, waiting for the rest to come out can be really troublesome and dissapointing since there is no practical way to test these features and see if they work the way you want them to.

I like the Palm phones myself because they are easy to use and I think you would be better off with the Palm operating system instead of Microsoft! Microsoft has a lot of problems (at least mine did) and sending error reports took forever to get a response and then I was repeatedly told there isn't a solution for my problem! GRRRR!

I finally got rid of that phone, but it was the only time I had a problem with a Palm and it wasn't the phone's fault, it was the OS!

I would consider a Palm Treo series like the 680, 700, 755, 780 or 800. I think you like the large screen of the TX, but the others have a good high resolution screen for a very good price and the Palm OS can be upgraded to sync with Microsnot products and not mess up your phone with crashes!
