  1. Magnesium for sure. If you ever run in salt water, use an alluminum alloy annode. They work in both worlds.

    Zinc anodes form a zinc hydroxide coating in fresh water rendering them pretty much useless. On the other hand, magnesium anodes work very well in fresh water, but in salt water they overprotect and disintegrate very quickly. By overprotecting they also give your hull an electrical charge that will lift the paint.
