The best defensive midfielders in the world ( Part 2)
One of the most important and crucial positions on the football pitch, is that of a defensive midfielder. The defensive midfielder is usually the most underappreciated player in the game, but he easily has the most responsibility when compared to the rest
of the squad.
While the rest of the team is trying to impress in their individual positions, the defensive midfielders are busy helping out with the defence and then simultaneously helping with the attack on the counter. The defensive midfield position is one, that has
become highly crucial for the game and any team without a decent player in that position is sure to fail.
Here is a look at some of the best defensive midfielders in the world at the moment.
Gareth Barry
Gareth Barry is one of the few English players, who has the ability to play as a defensive midfielder. Some might argue that England already have quite a few players for that position, so what is so different about Barry? Barry is quite possibly the only
defensive midfielder that England have, who chooses to play in that position, as opposed to the countless others who are forced to play the role of a holding midfielder.
Since it is the players natural choice to play there, he is easily better than the rest of the players who play over there. Barry is also currently twenty nine years old, which means he has a good amount of experience behind him, which only makes him even
better than he already is.
He is currently employed by Manchester City, but has so far not been able to live up to the same level of performances, that he displayed at Aston Villa. The player was so brilliant during his stay with Villa, that he was appointed to become the captain
of the side.
It was mostly due to Barry’s performances, that the strong defence around the big four was forced to crack at the hands of Aston Villa and as a direct result Barry was subjected to super stardom in the country and at the club, which would explain why Manchester
City just couldn’t wait to sign the player.
Nonetheless Barry is one of the most versatile players in the world, he can play in almost any defensive position but when he plays in the defensive holding position, he tends to outshine almost everyone around him. There is still plenty more to come from
Barry in the coming years and the City fans will strongly be hoping that he can once again regain the same performances that he had when he was with Villa.
Sami Khedira
Same Khedira, who is only twenty three years old, was one of the best players in the German team during the teams outing in the FIFA World Cup 2010. That is exactly why the player was later signed by Real Madrid.
Khedira has proved to be one of the best defensive midfielders over the last couple of years. He was one of the best players to participate in the Under 21 World Cups and looks to be carrying that form with him into his senior appearances.
Khedira has tremendous speed, a great footballing mind and the ability to be threatening in the air. Considering he is only twenty three years old, he has pretty much his whole career in front of him, which means that the world still has a lot to expect
of the young German.
Khedira has been made an official member of the Madrid starting eleven under Mourinho, which tells us a lot about the player and his abilities. All the Madrid fans will be hoping that the player continues to perform at the same level for years to come.
