  1. 1 Dry- any type of wood should be stored for at least 6 months before burning

2 Hardwood- pine, cedar or any other soft wood has more creosote than hardwood and requires more frequent chimney cleaning.

3 local- fireplaces are not generally environmentally friendly. If your firewood has to travel more than 50 miles to get to you than it is environmentally disastrous.

  2. oak

  3. It depends on where you are burning it.  For a camp fire, I like birch or pine.  In a fireplace, birch does a nice job.  In a wood furnace, any hardwood will do.  I tend to use oak and iron wood.

  4. Any type of wood from Nut Trees

  5. Locust trees burn HOT HOT HOT! Oak and Hickory are next and smell great!  You are looking for hard woods.
