As much as I hate to say it, historically speaking, I have to say the Yankees. They have the most WS wins. As of now, I would go with the Boston Red Sox. They have been overall better than other teams for a few years.

There 1 simple explanation. The point of sports in general is to win, and more importantly, win championships. The Yankees have the most so they are the best franchise (historically speaking).

Boston hands down.  yankees are starting to pay for bringing in old, expensive talent just to stay competitve in the short term (no WS since 2000 after a billion $$$ spent)

i dont want to seem biased for i am a red sox fan but id deffianetly have to say the boston red sox. they got very good players on their roster and to go along with that,they got some of the best prospects.they got a ton of money to spend whenever they choose to.they got the prospects that will get the job done.plus,they got rings from recent years to show how good they are

The cardinals, because they have 10 world championships, have done it through hard working blue collar type players.   They never had the firepower of any of the yankees teams had in their glory days or even now.  And also, the last time the cards and yanks met in the world series, the cards won in game 7!!!!(1964)  the cards are the quintessential midwestern team, and that is why they have the most loyal, knowledgable and well mannered fans!

right now it is the Boston Red Sox without doubt there are many clubs that have it going on that is for sure the yanks the cubs the dodgers the mets the cardinals just to name a few but boston has won 2 out of the last 4 sold out at least the past 5 seasons every seat every game I know fenway only holds 35+ but they are all full the owners make a fortune but arent afraid to spend it and the farm system is just nasty allthough if you look at the Cards they do well annually and on a small payroll I still say sox.

Right now probably the Rays. I mean their the cheapest and best! Sounds like a good situation to be in if your the owner of them.

But the best franchise off all time would have to be the Yankees. They have the most world series. Huge fan base. They always seem stacked.  Which is why i love to hate them ha ha. :)

The best franchise based on what they have done based on winning would have to be the Yankees. Although, I don't agree with the way they have acheived it over the past decade or so. To me you are not a great franchise just because you can outspend everybody in baseball and sign and trade for an entire line up of all stars or former all stars.

To me a great franchise is one like the Twins or Athletics, teams that continually lose their big name players and stars to the large market teams, but still remain competitive on a yearly basis.

even though i am a HUGE st. louis fan, i gotta give it to the yankees. just look at their history. 26 world series titles is amazing. joe torre did a great  job managing there, and with young A-rod and jeter, there is only more sucess to come.

Red Sox, buts its pretty close between red sox and yanks. I'd say cubs could also be in the arguement.
