The best method of learning?

Hello, I am planning to study throughout the summer. I already have a large number of books and other material covered, but have trouble deciding on my learning methods. Should I learn by:

Rote learning?: Quickly memorize material and repeatedly review.

Note-taking?: Jotting down the important details.

Reading?: Just reading the textbook.

Or if you can recommend another method?

  1. Studies have shown that if you are exposed to the same material 4 times in 3 days, you'll retain it.  And if you can teach it to someone, you will know it even better.

  2. You will have to experiment and see what works best for YOU.  No one method works the same way for every person.  What worked best for me was speaking notes/important details to a tape and replaying them.  I would think mp3 players with record capability would be handy as anything for this!

    Good luck.

  3. The best method of learning is shock learning.

  4. If you are just learning to pass an exam then a combination of 1 and 2 are probably best. Notes of main points written on index cards are good for final revision.

If you really want to learn and remember the material I'd suggest writing about it as well as reading. The extra thought that goes into that should help you better understand what you're reading and remember it long term. Essays, web pages, lapbooks, whatever takes your fancy as long as it requires that you THINK about the material. It's more time consuming of course but if you have the time and the aim is something beyond passing an exam it's worth it.

  5. it is said that what we study we forget in 24 hours so it is better to study everyday

  6. Note taking help because when you write something down, even if you never reread it, you have put the info in your brain in one more way.

It's best to see, hear and write down things.  That way you get it 3 ways.

You can also try listening to books on tape as you sleep, or right before and after you fall asleep to get it into your subconcious.  It's easy and can't hurt.

    Good luck :D
