El Pollo Loco. I just went there for dinner and I got a loco salad and taco al carbon, for a dollar each... and I'm full!

I used to live in California, and i still think that the best meal I have had for under $5.00 was definately at Inn N Out. love their food. unless you live in California, Nevada, or Arizona, you wouldn't know about it though.

I would say McDonald's.  I would get 4-5 items from their dollar menu.

I think the best places are:

McDonald's: Double Cheeseburger and McFries with a large ice water.  $2.00

Taco Bell: Two Double Decker Tacos with extra mild sauce packets.  about $2.00

Pizza Hut: Personal Size Pepperoni Pizza and pop. about $5.00

Speedway:  Two regular Hot Dogs, small bag of chips, and 32 oz pop.   about $3.00

Almost every place has a 1.00 menu. Burger, fries and soda, include a desert. All under 5.00.

Chinese places usually serve 'bowls' and they're usually very filling.  Do you have a Chipotle in your area? If so, they have a burrito bowl that is huge healthy and cheap!

Wendy's is my fav cheaps eats tho. I pour their chilli (which is actaully pretty healthy) on their plain potato. Or I'll get the side salad and add side order chicken strips ontop! That and the kids size frosty! yummy!
