  1. I like "Pacifist's" suggestion very much and am sure that the enjoyment of reading, or having read to them, Dr Seuss books has taken many children to other poetry. My suggestion would be to find anthologies, or collections of poetry in which you can read all sorts of poems by a variety of authors. The themes may be humour, war , love, moods etc etc but I'm sure you will find in them something readable, understandable, interesting, thought provoking and a pleasure to read.

Poetry books old and new can always be found at car boot sales or second hand bookshops for next to nothing !!

    Happy reading !

  2. I know it sounds like I'm making fun here, I swear I'm not.

I would suggest books by Dr. Seuss.  He's got a great sense of meter and rhyme, his books really are very poetic.  Starting with his books can give you a good feel of the flow of poetry at a rather basic level.

  3. Tupac's music has really inspired me on a few occasions.

His poetry is very good... I wouldn't say it lacks complication.

Poems inspired by love tend to be complicated.

Poems with good imagery might be a good start for you.
