Resident Evil may have finished second as the most downloaded game via the PlayStation Store, yet it was Tetris that held on the prize as 2011 came to a close.
According to the latest reports published by Sony, there were a large number of game downloads recorded over their online digital distribution platform, the PlayStation Store. Yet, it seems a large number of those sales came from rather nostalgic consumers.
One such noteworthy name that finished in the top ten was Mortal Kombat, yet not the full on console version that everyone was so crazy about but rather, Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection. It seems that NetherRealm studios has a personal vendetta against the
alphabet ‘c’, opting to replace it with ‘k’ every chance they get.
Battlefield 1943 was another popular download as was the wonderfully atmospheric side scroller, Limbo.
Castle Crashers finished in sixth place while the popular Dungeon Hunter: Alliance could not beat Back to the Future: The Game – Full series offering.
Moving on to the top three and it seems that superheroes and vampires were the perfect combination for some as InFamous Festival of Blood ended the previous year as the third most downloaded title on the PlayStation Network.
Getting back to the nostalgia feeling and Leon Kennedy seems to have a large number of fans as the PlayStation 2 classic, Resident Evil 4 finished as runner up.
Yet, for being simple, yet challenging at the same time, the addictive block game, Tetris was the most downloaded digital release only title for 2011.
As for the top paid PlayStation Store downloads, it seems that Call of Duty took all top three spots with their DLC packs for the former best selling title of all time, Black Ops.
The First Strike DLC Packs and the Escalation and Annihilation DLC packs were the most downloaded add-ons on the network, with FIFA 12’s Premium Gold Pack coming in fifth.
There was enough space for the all zombie exclusive, Rezurrection DLC pack to sneak into sixth place as well.
The rest of the list was made up of MLB training points packs and an Angry Bird download for the PlayStation 3 console
