The best starting eleven of the decade – Part 1
It is very difficult to create the best team of the decade and it depends a whole lot on the maker’s transgressions.
Numerous great footballers have showcased incredible commitment and skill in the game and have risen through the ranks to become true football legends. Any football buff would use this line-up if the opportunity to pick any player from the past decade could
materialise.
A 4-4-2 combination would serve as the starting point.
Iker Casillas: Goalkeeper (Real Madrid)
Iker Casillas has had a prosperous career and has gone on to become a synonym to supreme goal keeping in the modern world of football. Whether the player was playing in his Real Madrid colours or the Spanish national colours, this Spaniard has literally
won everything that was on offer. One of his recent performances that dazzled fans across the globe were Casillas’ saves in South Africa during the World Cup.
Roberto Carlos: Left Back (Real Madrid, Fenerbahce & Corinthians)
When it comes to Roberto Carlos, there are two attributes that he will always be remembered for – speed and free kicks - and the player set the standards so high that what were considered to be great peaks before Carlos were brought down to the size of mounds.
Roberto Carlos was widely accredited of hitting the best free kicks in the businesses. Moreover, his dazzling super-human speed while handling the ball with great ease and accuracy was second to no one. Without a doubt, the player spent his best years of
his football career in Real Madrid and always created confusion and mass havoc on the left side of the field. The one free kick that many think stands out than all others was his fanatical curled free kick in 1997 in the match against France.
Paolo Maldini: Centre Back (Milan)
Former A.C. Milan captain Paolo Maldini has already spent more than fifteen years in the world of professional football before the start of this decade. During a majority of this time and even after the start of the new era, he continued to shine brighter
than all others. Many believe that most football fans would agree with when experts say that Paolo Maldini is one of the greatest football defenders of all time! From all of Maldini’s absolutely amazing and noble acts, another thing that stands out is the
athlete’s loyalty to AC Milan, which is difficult to find in today's cash rich day and age.
Alessandro Nesta: Centre Back (Lazio & Milan)
Thought to play as one of the most gifted centre backs to have ever played the game of football, Alessandro Nesta is a player that needs no description. Nesta is 34 years old and still has what it takes for AC Milan.
The truth is that Alessandro Nesta was the type of player that would even make the world’s best strikers panic and scratch their heads in an attempt to figure what their next move would be as Nesta raced towards them.
Cafu: Right Back (Roma & Milan)
All football pundits, players, and managers to fans on planet Earth know who Cafu was. Cafu was like a wall that would not let any ball pass as he literally struck fear in his opposition's heart.
He is widely thought to be one of the greatest right backs in the history of football and he will always be remembered for his technical abilities and his tireless over lapping runs.
Ryan Giggs: Central Midfield (Manchester United)
Ryan Giggs is without a doubt one of the most talented midfielders to play the game. He won numerous titles and holds various records for Manchester United in the English Premier League.
