  1. There are Literacy Associations in my area where I donate my books.  These are associations whose mission it is to help individuals to learn to read and write, it is staffed by volunteers. I was surprised to find out that there are many who cannot read in spite of all the free schools in my neighbourhood.

  2. In my community, there are several places to donate books. There are (nonprofit, church-affiliated) preschools and church nurseries who welcome all children's books. Kindergarten and first grade teachers love additions to their "classroom library." The chapter books are very well received at elementary school libraries (or teacher classrooms), and adult books are donated to the public library where they are either tagged & shelved, or sold at the "Friends of the Library" sale which raises money for the library.

In the US, there is no reason for a book to go to the landfill, ever. At the very least, you could sell it on Amazon & donate the proceeds.

    Thanks for caring!

    Best to you.

  3. your local charity store

  4. I feel that some charity stores have become thrift stores for people of normal income. Try taking your books to a public library. You can also ask some locals, because there are likely to be some nationally-accredited charities doing pick-ups in your area. I've donated to The Arc this way, and I didn't have to even step outside my door.
