A few tips:

1. Try naming things whenever and wherever possible. For instance, when riding a bus, you can start naming everything around you (una ventana, veo tres árboles, allí hay dos chicas corriendo, etc). Seeing and naming the obejcts around you is a very meaningful way to learn/remember words in another language.

2. Again, see and name everything around you, but this time write things down and then check spelling with a dictionary.
