The best way to strip hair color?

I have naturally dirty blonde hair. I have it colored black right now and it has been for about a year and a half. My hair is long thick and curly. I want to lighten my color to a light brown. I want to strip the color the safest way with the best results. Has anyone had to strip black color out? what method did u use and how did it affect your hair?

i had to strip my sister's hair from black brown and blonde and its not easy and i suggest if you are going to do it yourself not to do it all in one day and definately dont do it if you have to go anywhere. i do suggest you go to a hair dressers and talk to them before you go and do anything as everyone has different hair. you need to find out if you dont know what colour pigment your hair has because if you just go and get a blonde dye after your hair being so dark it is more than likely going to turn orange/red and patchy.... i did although go and get a 3 shades lighter blonde for her hair as she was going a light brown after it was stripped anyway and then did light brown over it but not until the next day as you need to give your hair a break and a deep condition in between or it will turn to straw and literally snap off.. good luck and talk to a hair dresser.... they dont charge for questions!!!

If this helps, my hair is naturally dark brown (nearly black) but I wanted blue highlights.  I went to the beauty college and they stripped the color, then put in the blue dye.  It turned out great, and my hair still looked and felt really really healthy.  Well, in time, I had to take the blue out so we went back to the beauty college.  The lady had a hard time stripping the color again.  She kept putting me back under the dryer again and again and now my hair is totally fried!  The point is, get it done professionally, they should know what they're doing :)  I learned you should spend a little more money if you want it to look good.

'color oops' sold at CVS it work's good it doesn't have bleach or ammonia in it.

My hair is black and i was just thinking about stripping it but i changed my mind at the last minute.

Let it grow out as i have heard that stipping your hair will ruin it.
