  1. a skid steer (a.k.a. bobcat) with a bucket will do the trick. some gravel yards may take your old asphalt for you, since they will grind it and resell the asphalt to contractors

  2. Use a back hoe.  It's bucket can tear out the asphalt.  I didn't say backside ho.  Those wont tear out asphalt.

  3. Asphalt is generally thin and crumbles when disturbed. Machine will remove it almost immediately. Manually, a pic or maddox will pick it up pretty fast. Thing is now you have to handle and shovel all that heavy material. My vote is the backhoe or bobcat machine.

  4. back-hoe or bobcat...sledge wont do anything except dent it...just tore out a driveway apron that was asphalt and it was 5 in. thick in some spots and the sledge wouldn't touch it...had to borrow a mini hoe and it should have been bigger...

  5. bobcat with forklift forks.... slide under and lift.. leaves nice chunks.

  6. You can rent a jack hammer or if you feel strong a pick ax and sledge hammer. To clarify my answer a sledge hammer will break it if you partually lift it with a pick. To be in line with the rest of these answers yes you can hire it done with a backhoe or bobcat but it will cost you a fortune.
