The big Travers Day King’s Bishop Stakes is shaping out to be a good one, as Flashpoint breezes for the Saratoga fixture
The 3-year-old sprinter, Flashpoint, got confirmed for the Grade 1 Foxwoods King’s Bishop Stakes, as trainer, Wesley Ward, confirmed his plans that the sprinter will take a crack o the race which is to be run at Saratoga on 27 August, 2011, on Travers Day.
The 3-year-old son of Pomeroy out of Two Punch Lil by Two Punch, Flashpoint, has annihilated his competition recently in all his sprints by a combined 20 ½ lengths, which shows the agility of the 3-year-old in 6 to 7 furlongs races.
Trainer Wesley Ward is ecstatic over his sprinter as he said that Flashpoint is the reason why he is living right now. The colt is tearing the bard down, and the trainer exclaimed that he has been training outstandingly and looks in top shape.
For the King’s Bishop Stakes, Flashpoint turned in a speedy workout at Aqueduct, where he breezed five furlongs in approx 1 minute and 1.05 seconds.
He will complete his rest of the work out sessions at the same training track and once he is done, Flashpoint will be shipped to Saratoga a week before the race, which will give him ample time to gallop and get used to the surroundings there.
Trained by Wesley Ward for the Peachtree Stable, Flashpoint was bred in Florida by Silverleaf Farms.
The sprinter is coming off a grand victory in the Grade 3 Jersey Shore Stakes at Monmouth Park under jockey C Velasquez, on 3 July, 2011.
It was seven length domination against C J Russell and Chipshot as the colt cruised past to hit the wire in the seven furlong event.
Flashpoint has been unsuccessful in the route races, and he has been running the distance under his previous owner Rick Dutrow Jr.
He ran in the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes where he finished 14th and a 4th position in the Grade 1 Florida Derby run at 1 1/8 mile.
Uncle Mo is also practicing for the seven furlong event, as The Factor is also under consideration for the race.
