  1. the biological species concept basically states that you are the same species if you look the same, have similar behaviors and can mate with others and produce viable, fertile offspring.  The last part states that species are reproductively isolated from other similar species (meaning they cannot produce live fertile offspring).  Not the best definition of a species, but for ecologist and many biologist it works just fine.
