  1. I dont think black boxers is the problem more so then it is African-American boxers. I think part of the problem is there is just less black boxer to be great in the States because so many young African Americaans only want to be Basketball players,Football players and Rappers.

The black athlete is  virtually Non existent in sports like baseball enless he's from Latin america and thats not because they cant compete at that level because some of the greates like Mays and Robinson were black. It's the lack of intrest and intrigue that has become the problem and it is the same in boxing because many of todays good Black boxers aren't even from the States.Such as D. Haye, T. Bradley, E. Miranda and even Andre Berto who is of Hatian decent. Even the most recent Great black boxer was Lennox Lewis and he was from England. So for young african american's this isnt exaclty someone they can identify with.

It's why if there was one reason Mayweather should of stuck around it should been to give black america back into boxing be that he had it at his grasp. Now black america will have to wait for the devolpment of The peterson brothers or Andre Ward.

Side Bar - For those who say Boxing is dead thats mostly to  White and Black America because they dont have anyone to look up at consistent basis in the sport but for those people in Puerto rico, Mexico and In The U.K. and the rest of Europe and Latin America the sport of boxing is great with a depth of good boxers. If there becomes more Pavlik's and Mayweathers you will see boxing become mainstream in america because in recent momorey those are the only fighters i would catch on ESPN on none boxing related show's because america wants to see american fighters and people in general want someone to identify with.

  2. It's just that more non-black boxers are getting back into the sport. For many years, non-blacks were at a disadvantage because of cuts. Now they have better cut treatment so they can compete again.

  3. Are they major fights? are the black boxers in good shape and prime condition? you can't just take a handful of fights and make an opinion about an entire race of athletes.

  4. Well, you really have to look closely at the relevance of those fights. The only fight that really mattered was the Abraham/Miranda fight, as they consisted of two boxers with good reputations. The Witherspoon/Arreola is completley irrelevant to me as Witherspoon is a journeyman. Witherspoon is a guy with virtually no amateur experience who started boxing as a "hobby" in college and didn't even take it up until his 20s.  Arreola has had over 200+ amateur fights and has being fighting since he was 16. Both men looked fat and out of shape and I don't see neither one of them ever making it pass contender status. I honestly don't even see Arreola getting pass Tua. I feel like Andre Berto is the boxer with the best future of the whole lot of above-mentioned boxers.

To answer the question, I dont feel the black boxer is getting soft, as many of the strongest divisions in the sport are dominated by blacks(i.e. lightweight, welterweight, light heavyweight, cruiserweight) and soon heavyweight with D. Haye. Blacks also hold titles in Junior Welterweight and Junior Middleweight. Many boxers with promising futures  are black(i.e. P. Williams, T. Bradley, D. Haye, C. Dawson, J. Kirkland, O. Solis, A. Berto, the Peterson brothers, A. Dirrell, and many others who are in the 20-25 range who will probably soon have titles.)Blacks never had a presence in divisions below lightweight because honestly, kind of hard to find a black boxer that weighs less than 130 lbs. I do feel like  boxing  is a dying sport in the Black community which is currently regaining its popularity, which is why I feel Blacks will have a stronger dominance of the sport in a few years, as blacks have been recapturing many titles previously held by non-Blacks.  Not many blacks aspire to be boxers like they did in say the 60s. The sport is flooded with Europeans, but at the same time, the weakest divisions are dominated by Europeans. Europe is where boxing is really starting to get popular.

Another thing to consider is the fact that the Heavyweights are a total fluke, because Don King has been working with sanctioning bodies to alter ratings and give Europeans higher rankings. The reason being is that, becuse boxing is so popular there, he figures he can sell more tickets if there are more European fighters fighting in Europen venues. Vladmir Virchis jumped to #1 for virtually no reason a few months ago, while fighters like Sam Peter wait years for titleshots.

  5. I'm glad that someone has realized that.  Heavyweight champion is white.  Kelly Pavlik is one of the best pound for pound fighters that no one talks about.  But I have to say that Miguel Cotto is my favorite.  Pretty boy retired cause he didn't want to get his face caved in.

  6. it doesnt matter the race it matter whats inside the fighter what counts
