  1. go to a scrap yard and get a second hand lock unit.

  2. If the boot will not SHUT - as opposed to will not lock when shut - you will probably only need to make a slight adjustment to the striker loop on the lower rear panel. this just requires loosening the two bolts just enough to move the plate. When you get it shut, carefully re-open and re-tighten the bolts.

  3. Get new shoe laces.

  4. Try using a screwdriver to lever the "lock hook catch back out" can't really tell without looking at the car but  if you want it repaired cheaply  you could take it to the local car salvage yard  where they usually  do  repairs.

  5. Try a bit of WD on it , it might be stuck.!!

  6. The mechinisam has just closed early, it should be easy to re open it and close the boot properly with a bit of a fiddle.

  7. put the key in the lock and try to unlock it, then try to shut again sometimes the lock activates and the lock will not go over the striker plate, as the the catch is already in the lock position, by unlocking it the lock can then catch the striker plate, sometimes as well the striker plate, which is the hoop that the lock catches onto, moves down wards and the lock misses it, there's a bolt either side od the hoop undo then and move the hoop upwards again then try to shut the boot again

  8. What Astra is it? If its the new one, you're in trouble as its electronic.
